According to Western (and Eastern) medicine; the core of your health is the health of your digestive system.
70 Million Americans (26% of the US population) have some form of digestive illness. Of course, this statistic represents only those that have sought treatment. Given the sensitive nature of the disease and the high-cost of treatment, it’s reasonable to assume that if we added the number of Americans who have not sought treatment – it would be much higher. Perhaps double. Truth-be-known, there are some very simple, highly effective, 100% natural changes that can heal your digestive condition – no matter what your diagnosis.
In order to keep this article clear, concise, and impactful, I’m going to distill it (no pun intended) down to the most common denominator. First some important (& fun) facts:
- The PH Scale is the measure of alkalinity or acidity in water
- The Scale ranges from 1 to 14 (1 being most acidic and 14 being most alkaline)
- A PH greater or equal to 7 is alkaline
- A PH less than or equal to 7 is acidic. Simple
- The human body is comprised of up to 80% water
- The PH of pure drinking water is 7 (alkaline)
- It is widely held that life on earth began in the ocean 3 billion years ago
- The PH of Ocean water is between 7.5 and 8.2 (alkaline)
- The perfect PH of the human body is 7.4% (alkaline)
The more you keep your digestive system in an alkaline state, the better it will function and heal itself.
The average American diet, from the first cup of coffee in the morning to the last cocktail in the evening, and all the animal protein and sugar in between - is acidic. Ever go on vacation with a cut, scrape, or perhaps even a skin-condition that heals like magic after you swim in the Ocean every day? Here’s how to turn that same magical healing power of the alkaline ocean internally, on your digestive system.
Go to Whole-Foods and pick-up a shaker of “Celtic” brand, grey Mediterranean sun-dried, sea-salt. Before bed, shake about 1/8 teaspoon of Celtic sea-salt into 30 ounces of pure (if you don’t have a reverse osmosis filter at home - Evian or Fiji will suffice) water and set next to your bed each night (no ice). If you wake-up and need a few sips of water during the night, drink the room-temperature sea-salted water. First thing when you wake-up in the am. sip the water while you get ready, and before you eat or drink anything else. You are now hydrating, alkalizing, settling, and preparing your entire digestive system to break fast (break-the-fast).
Don’t worry about getting too much salt (sodium). Sea-salt has all of the good properties of salt (mineral content), absent the bad properties that are stripped away to make table salt. Let’s call this your daily Water Cure. If you take a good probiotic (everyone should), after your daily Water Cure and before you eat, is the best time to take them.
Speaking of eating, why not keep the alkaline train going while you’re eating breakfast?
Instead of hash-browns: make a pot of Lundberg Brothers organic, short-grain, brown rice (Whole Foods) for the week, put it in the fridge, and have with an egg. The brown rice will provide the best source of fiber (maybe THE most important part of healing your digestive system) for the day. Same with root vegetables (anything with a root attached - like a carrot, onion, garlic) are the most alkaline foods to eat in the morning. Bacon is easier to digest than beef. Salmon is easier to digest than both. Only have the coffee (acidic) after all of the alkaline, and then only one-cup. Same with the alcohol (acidic) at the end of the day (one drink). Google alkaline vs. acidic foods for alkaline lunch and dinner choices.
Eat brown-rice as frequently as you can to help condition your system to properly digest the rest of the meal.
Just about all digestive diseases, no matter what their name, are the result of inflammation. For those that have mild digestive disease, above will slowly but surely set the stage for healing 100% of your symptoms. You’ll notice a difference in a week – and a big difference in a month. If you have moderate to severe digestive disease or you want to heal more rapidly, you’ll need to add additional alkalizing elements to above daily routine that can be found at: Healing Digestive Illness
